Iwanowski, Sigismund
Artist. Born in Poland, Iwanowski; attended St. Petersburg Academy and, while in Russia, painted members of the Imperial family. Studying art in Paris some years afterward, he met and married an American musician and artist, Helen Moser. Came to Westfield, Mass where he lived for several years. He enjoy teaching, which he considered a mission, to bring artist and the public closer. After serving as a colonel in the Polish Forces during the World War I, Iwanowski returned to Warsaw, Poland to aid Paderewski after he was chosen Premier of the new Republic. During the peace conference, the painter took over the Premier's duties while Paderewski served as a delegate at Versailles.
