Jalmuzynski, Jean Jay
Balletmaster and dancing teacher. Born in Warsaw, Poland, December 23, 1898; son of John and Theodora Jalmuzynski. As a boy entered a ballet school of "Teatr Wielki" in Warsaw, Poland, where as a student he studied choreography under Alexander Gilert and then under John Walczak, one of the greatest choreographers. In 1919 he joined a dancing troupe of Russian ballet group headed by Sergey P. Diagiehievnow, known as Monte Carlo Russian Ballet. He was a ballet student of Enrico Checchetti (teacher of Anna Pavlova and Walter Nijinski). He appeared in the Russian Monte Carlo Ballet in numerous European countries. As a member of Anna Pavlova dancing troupe he came to U.S. in 1923 and settled here permanently. He appeared in Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and in numerous circuit theatres of RKO and Loew's throughout United States and Canada. He was also a member of the ballet group in the Metropolitan Opera House, N. Y. City. He is a director of ballet department, Institute of Musical Art and Dancing, Detroit, Mich. Address: 2701 E.
