Jankiewicz, Mother Mary Cajetana
Felician Order. Pioneer-nun. Teacher. Provincial. Born Feb. 26, 1839 in Warsaw, Poland. Daughter of John and Louise Jankiewicz. Graduated in Warsaw. One of the pioneer Sisters, who came to U.S. on Nov. 13, 1874, to teach in their first parish school opened by Rev. Joseph Dabrowski in Polonia, Wis. Teacher and organizer of the early Polish parochial schools, for twenty six years. Supervisor of schools from 1888-1900. Co-editor of Polish Readers, for the elementary schools; namely: First Polish Reader (Pierwsza Polska Czytanka), Second Polish Reader (Druga Polska Czytanka), Third Polish Reader (Trzecia Polska Czytanka). Provincial-superior from 1900 1907. As Provincial-superior she lead a very active life. Opened and organized the following elementary schools and institutions: 1901, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School, Wyandotte, Mich.; 1901, St. Josaphat School, Pittsburgh, Pa.; 1902, St. Valentine School, Peru, Ill.; 1902, St. John Cantius School, Detroit, Mich.; 1902, St. Joseph School, Jackson, Mich.; 1902, Built an infirmary for the sick Sisters, Detroit, Mich.; 1903, Our Lady of Czestochowa School, McKeesport, Pa.; 1903 Transfiguration School, Mt. Pleasant, Pa.; 1903, St. Mary's School, Bronson, Mich.; 1904, St. Casimir School, Leavenworth, Kansas; 1904, St. Joseph School, St. Joseph, Mo.; 1905, St. Hedwig School, Detroit, Mich.; 1905, Immaculate Conception B.V.M., Manitowoc, Wis.; 1906, Sacred Heart School, Two Rivers, Wis.; 1906, Holy Innocents School, Chicago, Ill.; 1906, St. John of God School, Chicago, Ill.; 1907, St. Hyacinth School, Bay City, Mich.; 1907, St. John Cantius School, Sharpsburg, Pa.; 1907; St. Joseph Orphanage, Milwaukee, Wis.
