Kaper, Bronislaw
Bronislaw Kaper, (1902-1982) was born in Warsaw, Poland. He was a graduate of the University of Warsaw and the Chopin Music School. In 1936, Kaper arrived in Hollywood where he wrote some of the most memorable musical scores for film and composed music in the light classical field that has lasted to the present day. He left a legacy of nearly 150 scores for motion pictures. Some of his notable scores include: "The Glass Slipper," "The Chocolate Soldier," "The Swan," "Gaslight," "Invitation," "Green Dolphin Street," "The Red Badge of Courage," "San Francisco," "Auntie Maine," "Butterfield Eight," "Lord Jim," and both versions of "Mutiny on the Bounty." In 1953, he received an Oscar for the movie "Lili." He also composed the music for the Broadway musical "Polonaise," starring Jan Kiepura and Marta Eggert.
