Karlowicz, Hedwig
Editor, writer. Born in 1902 in Myszyniec, Poland (nee) Abramczyk. In 1915 went to Kijow. Graduated from Gymnasium of Venceslava Peretiatkowicz. In 1920 came to Poland, engaged as a teacher in elementary school in Chlopin Laka. In 1921 married Marian Karlowicz; both came to U.S. in 1922 to Chicago, and settled here. As a writer, published numerous poems, novels and articles in Polish press, since 1928 in U.S.; in 1938 she wrote a book, "The History of the Polish Women's Alliance in America," fraternal organization, which numbers 70,000 members with headquarters in Chicago, Ill. In 1939 elected editor of "Glos Polek," official organ of said organization. In 1939 went to Poland, where she graduated from Warsaw University, Department of Journalism and Department of Literature.
