Professor. Born March 20, 1891 in Minto, North Dakota. Son of Jacob M. Kierzek and Jadwiga (Paszek) Kierzek. Educated in public schools of Argyle, Minn. Attended University of Minn., 1909-11, Carleton College, Bachelor of Arts degree, 1913. Taught in high school in Minnesota. Attended graduate school, University of Minn. Master of Arts, University of Minnesota, 1917. Taught English and coached athletics at Shattuck Military School. Served with Sixth Division, 53rd Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces in England, France and Germany, 1918-19. Instructor of English, University of Minnesota, 1920-24. Doctor of Philosophy, University of Minnesota, 1924. Associate professor of English, 1925-1930, Professor of English at Oregon State College, Corvallis, Oregon. Married Louise Pierce of Elgin, Ill., 1920. One daughter: Marion Jean. Author of several books: "English Fundamentals," 1933, with Don W. Emery, published by the Macmillan Company; "The Practice of Composition," 1936, 1939, Macmillan; "The Macmillan Handbook of English," 1939, the Macmillan Company.
