Konopka, Rev. Miecislaus
Roman Catholic clergyman. Born in Perth Amboy, N. J., in 1893; son of Andrew and Alexandria Konopka. Attended St. Stephens parochial school, Perth Amboy, N. J. and then studied in the local high school. Later he studied at the Polish Seminary, Orchard Lake, Mich. and completed his theological studies at St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie, N. Y. Ordained to holy priesthood in 1917. First assignment as curate at Holy Cross Church, Trenton, N. J. Joined the U.S. Army in 1919 as an army chaplain. After the World War I he returned to his priestly duties in the civilian capacity and was appointed assistant pastor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, So. Amboy, N. J. In 1923 he began organizing a new Polish parish in Whitehouse, N.J. and founded Our Lady of Lourdes Church of which he was a pastor. In 1935 he was transferred as pastor to All Saints Church, Burlington, N. J., where he organized numerous organizations and societies. In 1941 the diocesan authorities appointed him director of Holy Name Societies for the county of Burlington. In 1942 he was appointed honorary member of United States Coast Guard and chaplain.
