Kridl, Manfred
Professor of history. Born in Lwow, Poland, October 11, 1882. Educated in Lwow. In 1909 University of Lwow granted him a degree of Doctor of Philosophy. He undertook special studies in Freiberg, Switzerland, Bonn, Heidelberg, Paris and London. Lecturer of History of Literature at the University of Warsaw from 1921 to 1928. Professor of Slovenian Literature at the University of Brussels, Belgium from 1929 to 1933. Professor of Polish Literature at the University of Stephen Batory, Wilno, Poland from 1933 to 1939. Author of several books in Polish literature. His monumental writing is a 5 or 6 volume work entitled "Polish Literature in the 19th Century" which is used as a textbook. Came to U. S. in the summer of 1940 by way of Lisbon, Portugal. Guest professor at Smith College, Northampton, Mass. Corresponding member of the Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America.
