Kuberek, Rev. Protase, O.F.M.
Born April 30, 1879. Came to the United States from Europe as a boy. Minor Seminary studies at St. Joseph Seminary, Teutopolis, III.; 1892-1899. Joined the Franciscans of the Sacred Heart Province in U. S., July 24, 1899. Simple Profession: July 28, 1900; solemn profession: Aug. 2, 1903. Humaniora studies at Sacred Heart Friary, Indianapolis, Ind., and St. Augustine's Friary, Chicago III.; 1900-1901. Attended the major seminaries of St. Francis Solanus, Quincy, Ill., and St. Antony's Friary, St. Louis, Mo. Ordained June 30, 1906. Pastor of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, St. Louis, Mo., 1906. Assistant Pastor in Washburn, Wis., to the French-Canadians and Slovaks, and pastor of the Polish Parish there, 1907-1908. Pastor of St. Michael's Church, Radom, III., 1908-1909. Pastor of St. Stanislaus B. & M. Church, Duncan, Neb., 1909-1910. Pastor again of St. Michael's Church, Radom, Ill., 1910-1914. In 1914 for a few months pastor and organizer of St. Antony's Polish Church, Columbus, Neb. Since September, 1914 has been assistant at St. Stanislaus Church, Cleveland, Ohio, the largest Polish Parish there. An accomplished musician. As soon as he came to St. Stanislaus Parish, Cleveland, Ohio, he organized St. Stanislaus Band which is now in existence for 28 years. His Band is always one of the main attractions at the numerous Polish and civic affairs in Cleveland. In 1941 the Veterans of Foreign Wars awarded Fr. Protase Kuberek the distinguished Citizen's Medal for his work with the youth in connection with music.
