Nagorski, Francis Thomas
Lawyer. Born September 18, 1879, in Wysin, Poland, the son of John Nagorski and Frances (Klawitter) Nagorski. Attended elementary German School in Wysin until eleven years of age. Came with his parents to Erie, Pa. in 1890. Attended St. Stanislaus parochial school and later Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary, Detroit, Mich. Graduated from the Central High School in Erie in 1898. Pursued legal studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and received the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1904. While a student at the University of Michigan, president of the Fencer's Club and the Law President's Club. Admitted to the bar in 1905 and practices in Erie, Pa. since. Also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the Federal Courts. Member of the Erie County, the Pennsylvania and the American Bar Associations Active in the educational, sociological and political affairs of his community. Instrumental in the organization of the East Side Building and Loan Association in 1907, and has since acted as its solicitor. Active in the organization of the Bank of Erie Trust Company in 1917, and was its vice president and solicitor until his resignation in 1934. First Secretary of the St. John Kanty College, and at one time a member of the Board of Directors of Erie's Community Chest, and President of the Community Young Men's Association. During World War I served as a speaker and in the selective service. During 1918-1919 member of the Erie City Council and Director of Accounts and Finance; and by virtue of his office, Vice-Mayor. In the Primary election in 1931, although a Republican, the Democratic party honored him with a nomination for Judge of the Orphans' Court. In the November election, he carried the city of Erie, but was defeated by the Republican vote in the Country districts. Member of the Pennsylvania State Park and Harbor Commission, by appointment of the city council in August 1932, and served five years. Served as District Counsel for the Home Owners' Loan Corporation from June 1934 to April 1936. He was a member of the Relief Board under Governor Earl, and is at present by Governor James' appointment, a member of the Erie County Board of Assistance. His hobby is photography, particularly in natural colors. Married February 8, 1910 to Hedwig Dymsza (Dymshuaw) of Pittsburgh, Pa., have two children: Francis Jr., Robert. Resides in Erie, Pa.
