Katarzyna NewcomerKatarzyna Newcomer was born in Biala-Rawska in Mazovia. She studied foreign trade at the SGPiS (Main School for Planning and Statistics) now SGH (Main Trade School) in Warsaw, attaining a Master's degree in Economics. She worked at the Center for Foreign Trade in Warsaw, and then for 4 years in London for an English export firm. In London she undertook intensive study of the English language and literature which she later continued at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. She came to Philadelphia with her husband Paul in 1976. She continues to develop her interest in American literature. She also practices artistic and documentary photography wining many important prizes from the Photographic Society of Audobo. [?]
On the 200th anniversary of the birth of Adam Mickiewicz she published a collection of poetry "Pocoz nastepuje rzeka plynie," which addresses various elements of the great bard's poetry. The poet also presents poetry in the English language at periodic meetings of poets of the Overbrook Poets Group which take place in Philadelphia and vicinity. She organizes poetry evenings for the American public. She has organized presentations of the work of Polish poets: Mickiewicz, Herbert, Rozewicz, and Milosz. She belongs to PIASA (Polish Institute of Art and Science in America), the Kosciuszko Foundation, the Academy of American Poets, Photographic Society of Philadelphia. The poets' group presents Polish poetry at the Polish American Congress' Cultural Center and Museum in Philadelphia. Among poets taking part are: Krzysztof Wierzbicki and Laurence Beck, along with others from among the Polonia community.
