Raszewski, Alexander
Major in the Union Army. Engraver. Born 1806 in Poland. In 1831 came to U.S. after the fall of the Polish insurrection against Russia in 1830. Helped to organize the Thirty First New York Infantry during the Civil War, of which he was a major. Appointed captain May 27, 1861, commissioned major March 1, 1862; resigned on October 4, 1862. He helped later to organize 178th Infantry of New York. Died in 1880. Was outstanding member of "Towarzystwo Demokratyczne Wygnancow Polskich" (Democratic Society of Polish Exiles).From: "Who's Who in Polish America" by Rev.
