Rozan, Jacob M.
Teacher. Born in Boruszyn, Poland. In 1872 came with parents to Buffalo, N. Y. From 1872 to 1877 was a teacher at St. Hedwig's parochial school, Toledo, 0. From 1878 to 1898 teacher and organist at St. Stanislaus parish, Buffalo, N. Y. In 1890 elected supervisor and in 1892 re-elected to the same office. Due to his efforts all Polish orphans from county were transferred to the Felician Sisters Orphanage in Cheektowaga, N. Y. Member of the executive committee of the Democratic party In 1892 chosen as U. S. Consul in Warsaw, Poland, but Russia refused to recognize him. In 1892 offered the position of Chief of Internal Revenue Bureau, but he refused it. In 1892 secretary to the Polish Congress in Buffalo and member of the delegation of Poles to the Apostolic Delegate, Washington, D. C., in behalf of the Polish Bishops for the Polish immigrants. Co-organizer of the Polish Union of America, where in 1893 and 1894 he was a general secretary. Director of the Empire State Bank for 10 years. In 1905 superintendent of Providence Saving Life Association. Founded the Moniuszko Singing Society. In 1898 married Rose Ruszkiewicz from Grand Rapids, Mich. Published: "Wybor Piesni Narodowych."
