Zebrowska, Antoinette L.
Concert violinist, music teacher. Born in Chicago, Ill., Jan. 8, 1900. At the age of six received her first toy violin. At the age of nine displayed great musical talent and by invitations played at the mansions of many millionaires for which she received large sums of money and jewelry. At the age of eleven gave a first violin recital with the help of her principal, Mr. Wm. J. Bartholf. Studied violin under the guidance of Prof. Joseph H. Chapek of Chicago and then sailed to Europe to study under Prof. Ottakar Sevcik who taught at the Royal Academy of Music in Vienna. Antoinette was the most beloved student of Prof. Sevcik. After three years of studying music in Europe appeared as a soloist in concerts all over Poland, Czechoslovakia, Austria, Italy and Spain. Upon her return to America appeared for three years in U.S. in various cities from coast to coast and also in numerous cities in Canada. At the age of sixteen played Paganini's concerto, Bachs Sonatas, Saint Saens and all the great masters with ease. Wieniawski is her favorite and she is acclaimed by critics as his best interpreter. Was the youngest concert master of the Symphony Orchestra formed only of artists from Sevcik Colony. Antoinette received a gold medal for violin playing at the age of 10, at 11 she received a certificate of merit, at 13 she started to teach music and at 16 she received a diploma from Prof. Sevcik as a concert violinist and teacher. General HaIler decorated her with a "Cross of Service." She is now (1943) engaged as a music teacher and in this capacity conducts her own music studio.
