Artur (Art) Zygmont, age 82, died suddenly at his home in Torrance, Cal. on September 2, 2006, after a very short illness.
Art was born on October 1, 1923 in Detroit, MI. to Tadeusz and Czeslawa Zygmont. His formative years were spent in Hamtramck.
He was married to the late Gene Harubin Zygmont. They had a son Zenon. Artur served in the U.S. Air Force as a contracting officer.
In Los Angeles Art was known as a founder of the Polish American Cultural Network (PACN) -- editor of its very informative newsletter, editor of the Alert newsletter and member of the Polish Defense Committee. He could often be seen at Polish events selling books, writing notes, and keeping track of the news of the PACN members present. In 2005, he received the Polish American Congress' "Polonia Award" for his outstanding contributions to the Polish community. Art always enjoyed himself wherever he went and added zest to the occasion with a glass of wine in his hand. He especially enjoyed the Paderewski Festival in Paso Robles, CA. His presence will be sorely missed. His death came as a total shock to L.A. Polonia.
Plans for a memorial service have not yet been announced.
