Habich, Edward
Engineer. Born in 1835 in Poland. Took part in Polish insurrection against Russia in 1863, later as a political refugee went to Peru. Built numerous railroad tracks, bridges and highways. Built the whole system of irrigation in southern Peru, also founded a Polytechnic in Lima, Peru, the first school of its kind for civil and mining engineers [in Latin America]. Died in 1909.
