Football PlayerAn All-American at Notre Dame, the 1949 Heisman Trophy winner, and an All-Pro with the Detroit Lions. He had the winning touch wherever he played. He played on four unbeaten Notre Dame teams (1946-1949) with a combined 36-0-2 record, during which time the Fighting Irish won three national championships. In eight seasons with the Lions, he helped them win three NFL titles, earning All-Pro honors for both offense and defense in 1951.
