Hertz, Alexander
Sociologist, writer. Born in Warsaw, Poland, August 3, 1895. Completed his "gimnasium" studies in Warsaw. Attended University of Warsaw. As a student was active in the secret political societies organized by the Polish students during the prewar period before the start of first World War. Arrested by Russian and German authorities. University of Warsaw granted him a degree of Doctor of Philosophy. Associate editor of a publication of "Science and Life" (Wiedza i Zycie) and contributor to numerous educational publications published in Poland. Author of following books and pamphlets: "Ludzie i Idee" (People and Ideas), "Klasycy Socjologli" (Classicist of Sociology), "Socjologia Wspolczesna" (Contemporary Sociology), etc. Came to the U.S. in Sept., 1940 by way of Portugal. At present editor of "Poland Fights" a periodical published in New York City by the Polish Labor Group and sponsored by American Friends of Polish Democracy and International Coordination Council.
