Hodur, Francis Most Rev. Bishop
Born in Zarki, Poland, in 1866; graduate of secondary schools in 1886 in Krakow, Poland; ordained in 1893 in Scranton Pa. From 1895 to 1897 pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Nanticoke, Pa. In 1897 became pastor of the Polish National Catholic Parish in Scranton, Pa. In 1904 elected bishop of the Polish National Catholic Church In 1907 was consecrated by Archbishop Van GuI in Utrecht, Holland. A founder and head of the Polish National Catholic Church in U.S., which has 156 parishes and about 250,000 members, divided in four dioceses: Scranton, Pa.; Chicago, Ill.; Buffalo, N. Y., and Springfield, Mass. In 1893 editor and publisher of Polish weekly paper "Gazeta Pennsylvanska." Some of his Polish books are: "Nowe Drogi," "Faryzeusze i Saduceusze," "Zbrodniarze." Founder of the fraternal organization Polish National Union, with headquarters in Scranton, Pa. Address: Polish National Catholic Cathedral, Scranton, Pa.
