Lange, Oscar Richard (1904-1965)
Professor of economics. Born in Tomaszow Mazowiecki, Poland in 1904. Jagiellonian University of Cracow awarded him a degree of Doctor of Laws. Undertook special studies in economics abroad. Lecturer at the Jagiellonian University from 1931 to 1938. In July 1938 appointed Assistant Professor by Jagiellonian University. In 1939 appointed associate professor of economics at the University of Chicago. Author of several books published in Polish, English and German languages on political economy, economic monetary problems. A member of the Polish Socialist Party, in 1945 he went to Poland and resigned his American citizenship, becoming Poland's post-war Ambassador to the US. He was also appointed to represent Poland on the UN Security Council. In 1947 he returned to Poland where he served in various governmental and academic posts.From: New York Times
