Lesniak, John C.
Lawyer. Born June 16, 1899 at Scranton, Pa.; son of Peter and Josephine Lesniak. Education: graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary school and St. Thomas H. S. and College. Graduated from latter in 1918. Enlisted in U.S. Army, Honorably discharged as a student officer after the armistice was signed. Resumed his scholastic career at Fordham University and majored in Philosophy, receiving an M.A. degree. Continued at the same University in the School of Law and received LL.B. degree in 1927. Admitted to the Bar and to practice before Supreme and Superior Courts of Pennsylvania. In 1934 appointed by Gov. Gifford Pinchot as Workmen's Compensation Referee of the 3rd dlistrict. His administration was marked by his judicial poise and impartial judgment. Received a nomination to the office of District Attorney of Lackawanna County (1937) by the Republican party. Although defeated, he waged a clean campaign that brought him respect from all parties. In Jan. 1938 was appointed First Assistant City Solicitor of Scranton which office he held to his death. Member of Koch Conley Post of American Legion, Polish American Society, P.N.A., Tatra Club and other civic organizations.
