Leszczynski, Sigmund
Industrialist. Prominent member of the Moravians in U.S. Came to U.S. in 1779 and settled in New York City. From April 1779 to 1785 supervisor of the Brothers House at Bethlehem, Pa.; took part in the Revolutionary War as a private in Bethlehem Militia. Organized agricultural and trade schools, traveled, lectured on agriculture. Established a big brewery; during the Revolutionary War this brewery became a military hospital ; here Casimir Pulaski stopped a few times to rest. Received from the Moravian women a special flag for his Legion. In 1795 left for Europe, where he died.From: "Who's Who in Polish America" by Rev.
