Ligman, Rev. Thaddeus S., C.R.
Clergyman, educator, editor. Born in Lozebnica, Poland, Nov. 16, 1880; Son of Peter and Pauline (Duszynski) Ligman. Came with his parents to U.S., Chicago, Ill. June 5, 1884. His father was a leader in the pioneer days of the Poles in America. Educated at St. Stanislaus College in Chicago, Ill. In 1898 received a gold medal for mathematics and ethics; in 1901 received B.A. degree. Entered the Order of the Resurrectionist Congregation, Oct. 1, 1901. In July of the following yr. was sent to Rome, Italy, for his novitiate and his studies of philosophy and theology. Here he received his Ph.L. and D.C.L. Ordained in Rome in 1908. Returned to Chicago and continued his studies of sciences in University of Chicago. Appointed professor at St. Stanislaus College. Gave Saturday anid summer courses to thousands of Sister teachers to better prepare them as teachers in the parochial schools. Affiliated St. Stanislaus College with North Central Assn. of Colleges and Secondary Schools. Enlarged the school with many buildings, science bldg., a new gymnasium, and assembly hall. For 9 yrs. has been rector of St. Stanislaus H. S. now Weber H. S. For 2 yrs. was pastor of St. Stanislaus Church. Was elected general delegate for the Resurrectionist Fathers in the
U.S. in 1932. Was rector of Alumni of Rome in 1935. Delegate to the General Chapter of the Resurrectionist Fathers at Rome in 1932. In 1917 assisted in editing The Chicago Daily (Polish), and after the death of Rev. Francis Gordon in 1932 took full charge. In 1936 was decorated by the Government of Poland with the cross of "Polonia Restituta." Presently the Congregation of Orders in Rome appointed him commissioner of the Resurrectionist Fathers in U.S. for the duration of the war.From: "Who's Who in Polish America" by Rev.
