Liszniewski, Karol
Pianist. Member of the faculty of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Born in Przemysl, Poland. When ten years old, played in public and began composing in his 12th year. Received his early training from Mikuli and Mathilde Zlobicka; later studied under Henry Melcer, at the Conservatory of Music, Lwow, Poland, from which he graduated with honors. His musical career was interrupted by a hand injury whereupon he turned to studying law and entered governmental service. However he never stopped with music, especially during his twenty years of residence in Vienna, where he associated with many prominent musicians and was one of Leschetizky's intimate friends. After coming to America at first he was connected with the Polish Legation in Washington. D. C., until he was invited in 1922 to join the faculty of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music as a teacher of piano, repertoire and ensemble. Conducted classes on the West. Coast -- Portland, Ore., and Tacoma, Wash., and in Bangor, Maine. On Nov. 11, 1935 decorated with "Polonia Restituta" by the Polish Government.From: "Who's Who in Polish America" by Rev.
