Clergyman. Born Dec. 28, 1838 in Poland. Studied theology at University of Vienna, 1861. In 1863 took part in the Polish insurrection against Russia; came to U.S. in 1873; from 1873 to 1875 pastor of St. Stanislaus parish, Berlin, Wis.; in 1875 came to Chicago to St. Adalbert's parish as pastor; from 1878 to 1883 pastor of Sacred Heart parish, Pine Creek, Wis.; in 1883 came to Minnesota. From 1883 to 1911 pastor of St. Adalbert's parish, St. Paul, Minn. Was the first Polish Monsignor in the United States. Organizer of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America (Zjednoczenie Polskie Rzymsko Katolickie w Ameryce), with headquarters in Chicago, Ill., organization which now has about 200,000 members. Organizer of the Polish Union of America (a fraternal organization), Buffalo, N. Y., in 1889. Organized St. Casimir's parish, St. Paul, Minn.
