Matz (Mac), Rev. Max J.
Clergyman. Born in Ivanhoe, Minn., Jan. 17, 1896. Graduated from Campion College, Praine du Chien, Wis.; entered the St. Paul Seminary to study for the priesthood. Waived exemption to enter military service, served overseas in Company E, Seventh Ammunition Train, Seventh Division Regular Army, 1st World War. Ordained priest June 14, 1924, by Archbishop Austin Dowling. Served as assistant pastor at the Church of St. Adalbert, St. Paul, Minn., for three years and at the Church of All Saints, Minneapolis, Minn. for two years. Served as pastor of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Taunton, Minn., for five years; transferred to Church of St. John the Baptist, New Brighton, Minn., July 12, 1934. Department Chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of U.S., Department of Minnesota for three years and the Past National Chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of U.S. Served as Chaplain or the House of Representatives, Minnesota State Legislature 1935, 1937, 1939 sessions. Active in Veteran's Affairs. Member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Resides in New Brighton, Minn.
