Miroslawski, Stanislaus D.
Explorer, public official. Came to U.S. in 1870; was one of the first legislators of Polish descent in Illinois. lineal descendant of a noble family, distinguished in the annals of Poland, the most famous being General Ludwik Miroslawski, leader of the movement of 1830 to establish a United States of Europe, aided in this by Adam Miroslawski, another distinguished member of the family in the last century, a great explorer, discoverer of two islands in the Indian Ocean holding them for Poland as against the claims of France and England, and there establishing various enterprises, the main being pearl fisheries with which he was able to finance the insurrection of 1831 and 1847.From: "Who's Who in Polish America" by Rev.
