Mitana, Thaddeus, Ph.D.
Professor, lecturer. Born May 14, 1894 in Myslenice, Poland. Elementary education in Myslenice, Poland, and secondary in Krakow from 1904 to 1913. Studied at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow from 1913 to 1914. From 1914 to 1921 served in World War I and in Polish-Bolshevik War. From 1921 to 1923 studied again at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, where he received Ph.D. degree in 1923. From 1923 to 1924 professor in Bydgoszcz, and from 1924 to 1925 in Warsaw. In 1925 having a governmental scholarship studied English in London, England. In 1926 came to U.S. and was appointed professor of Polish at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Mich., where he taught until 1931. From 1931 to 1936 professor of Polish at the Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pa. From 1936 to 1937 lecturer at the Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill. Since September 1, 1937 to date again professor of Polish and dean of Polish Department at Alliance College, Cambridge Springs, Pa. Married Isabel Raczynski in Chicago, Ill., in 1937.
