Mruk, Joseph (1903 - 1995)

Representative from New York; born in Buffalo, N.Y., November 6, 1903; engaged in the jewelry business in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1928; served as district councilman to the Buffalo Common Council 1937-1941; was elected councilman at large in 1941 and served until December 22, 1942, when he resigned; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress (January 3, 1943-January 3, 1945); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1944; resumed the retail jewelry business; elected to the Buffalo City Council in 1947; elected mayor of Buffalo, serving from January 1, 1950, to December 31, 1953; died January 21, 1995.

Public official, merchant. Born Nov. 6, 1903 in Buffalo, N. Y. Education: Public School No. 44, St. John Kanty School, South Park High School. In 1927 established a jewelry store in Buffalo, N. Y. Entered politics in 1933, as Republican candidate for supervisor in the tenth ward of Buffalo; ran for councilman in 1935 but failed; in 1937 elected councilman of the City of Buffalo, re-elected in 1941 as councilman at-large. Member: P.N.A., P.R.C.U., Polish Union of America in Buffalo; the Association of Poles in Milwaukee; the Polish Falcons Alliance, Chopin Choir, Polish Singers Alliance, Polish Mutual Aid Society, K. of C., Eagles, Central Railway Club, Delaware Grider, Genesee Moselle Businessmen's Ass'n., Genesee Pine Hill Businessmen's Ass'n, president of St. John Kanty Business Circle.
