Theresa, Mary Mother
Foundress of Franciscan Sisters of St. Kunegunda. Born in Chonice [Chojnice?], Pomerania, Poland, August 30, 1860. Educated in Europe. Came to U.S. at the age of twenty. Settled with her parents in Chicago, Ill. Desirous of helping the poor, infirm and aged, she founded a religious order of Sisters known as the Franciscan Sisters of St. Kunegunda with a mother house in Chicago, Ill. This religious order was organized by her December 8,1894. She became the first Mother General of the order and made her perpetual vows in 1899, receiving the name of Sister Mary Therese.
