Watman, Anthony J.
Physician. Born in Salem. Mass., April 18, 1898, where he received his elementary and secondary education. SettIed in Jersey City, N.J. in 1921. Graduate of Tufts Medical School, Boston, Mass., from which he received M.D. degree in 1921. Served as interne at St. Vincent de Paul's hospital, Bridgeport, Conn., and later at Medical Center, Jersey City, N.J., later served as eye, ear, nose and throat specialist in one of the New York City's hospitals. Began practice of medicine in 1924 when he opened a medical office at 136 Erie St., Jersey City, N.J. Appointed chief physician of Catholic parochial schools in Jersey City, N.J., in 1925 by Newark Archdiocese, Post graduate medical studies completed at Children's Hospital, Detroit, Mich. and at Foundling Hospital, New York, N. Y., specializing in children's diseases. Returned to private practice in 1930. For three years acted as medical director for Ford Motor Co. in Kearny and Edgewater; also surgeon for Crucible Steel Co. in Jersey City; at present (1943) medical director of American Home Products Corp, Jersey City, N.J. On the medical staff of St. Francis and Medical Center hospitals; member of Hudson County Medical Society, New Jersey Medical Ass'n, Medical Jurisprudence Society, Knights of Columbus, 104th Signal Battalion American Legion, Polish National Alliance of America, Association of the Sons of Poland and numerous other organizations. Married Muriel V. Smith, August 16, 1928; father of two children. Mayor Hague appointed him member of the Jersey City Board of Education in 1942. Residence: 2784 Boulevard, Jersey City, N.
