Wendzinski, Ignace
Journalist. Father of the Polish journalism in United States. Editor, writer, teacher, lecturer. Born Jan. 23, 1828 in Bygdoszcz, Poland. Elementary education in Mogilno; secondary school and teachers college in Trzemesno. In 1848 took part in the Polish insurrection against Germany, imprisoned, later released, and engaged as a teacher in Golancza. In 1863, again took part in the Polish insurrection against Russia, after the fall of the insurrection, fled to U.S. In 1870 editor of "Orzel Bialy" (White Eagle) in Krakow, Mo. In 1872 teacher at St. Stanislaus Kostka school, Chicago, Ill., later teacher at St. Adalbert's school, Chicago. Editor of "Gazeta Polski" in Chicago, Ill. From 1876 to 1882 editor of "Przyjaciel Ludu" in Chicago: from 1882 to 1885 editor of "Zgoda," organ of Polish National Alliance in Chicago. Some of his writings are: "Definicja nieomylnosci Papieza." 1871; "Nauka o jubileuszu," "Nauka pisania, czytania i rachowania dla dzieci w Ameryce," 1876.
