Wilkomirski, Michael
Violinist. Born in 1902 in Moscow, Russia, of Polish parents. Studied under his father one of the most prominent violin pedagogues in Moscow, at that time. At the age of 8 made his debut on the concert stage. Since then concertized in Russia, as a child prodigy, together with his brother cellist and sister pianist. Career was considerably hampered by the World War and revolution in Russia, from which he managed to escape in 1919 to Poland. In Poland continued his concert career for six years. Given a scholarship by the Polish government which enabled him to go to France, where he studied with the great French violinist Lucien Capet. Also concertized in France and Holland. In 1927 came to United States, where he continued his concert career. Concertized from New York in the East to Salt Lake City, Utah, in the West. In 1938 decorated by the Polish government with the cross of merit. Besides playing devotes a large part of his time to teaching violin and coaching concert violinists. Presently is concertmaster of the WGN Symphony Orchestra in Chicago. Ill. Address: Station WGN. Chicago, Ill.
