Witkowski, Edward S., Sr.
Executive and insurance broker. Born in Poland, where he received his elementary and secondary education. Associated with the late Ignace J. Paderewski and Madame Paderewska in charitable work and in raising funds for the Polish orphans and also in the recruiting of the Polish Army in U.S. during the World War I. Chairman of the Polish Division of the U.S.O. in New York City. Very active in the Kosciuszko Foundation; chairman of the annual Kosciuszko Foundation Balls held at Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, New York City. For many years conducts a steamship agency and insurance brokerage office in New York City. Elected executive director of White Eagle Tobacco Company, New York City. Member of Polish National Alliance of America, Polish Falcons of America and many other organizations. President of Manhattan Society and one of its organizers. Married. One of the most active leaders of Polish Americans in New York metropolitan area. Decorated by General Haller with "HaIler's Swords"; also received awards from the Polish Army Veterans Ass'n of America and from the Polish Falcons of America.
