Wojtowicz, Hedwig
Pianist and teacher. Born July 27, 1915 in Lawrence, Mass. Daughter of the late John C. Wojtowicz and Mary B. Burek. Graduated from St. Casimir's parochial school in Milwaukee; graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee, 1933. Graduated with the degree of B.S. in Music from the Milwaukee State Teachers' College in 1938; recipient of a piano teacher's diploma from the Wisconsin College of Music, Milwaukee, in 1942; did post graduate study in Polish at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, 1939 1941. Had over five years of choral training; directed a C.Y.O. choir at St. Casimir's Church and the Moniuszko Choir in Milwaukee; taught music appreciation classes at Milwaukee State Teachers' College and for the Department of Municipal Recreation in Milwaukee. Private teacher of piano for last several years. Won first prize in the Eastern Wisconsin Music Association Piano Contest, 1933: appeared in Triple Bach Concerto with Young People's Symphony Orchestra in the Milwaukee Auditorium, 1933: played in double-piano concerto with the Milwaukee State Teachers' College Band, 1934; appeared in concert programs under the auspices of the Society of Musical Arts through competitive examinations (1942): soloist with the Wisconsin College of Music Orchestra. 1942. Member of the MacDowell Club and Lambda Phi Chi. Published several musical and political articles and familiar essays in "Naga Prawda," a bilingual Milwaukee monthly (1940-41). Presently on the staff of the Wisconsin College of Music, Milwaukee, as teacher of piano and music appreciation.
