Wolanin, Alphonse, Ph.D.
Archivist, writer, lecturer. Born in Lawrence, Mass., September 18, 1909. Received his elementary education at St. Mary's School and graduated from St. John's High School, Worcester, Mass. Attended Holy Cross College. Worcester, Mass, for two years and St. Anselm's College, Manchester, N. H., from which he received B.A. degree. He went to Poland on a scholarship and studied at the Jagiellonian University, Cracow, from which he received M.A. degree in 1934 and Ph.D. in 1936. He completed his post-graduate work at the universities of Berlin, Paris and Rome. Also studied at Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Cracow and at National Museum in Poland. Married Edythe Isis Spunar, July 19, 1941; has one daughter, Helen Jean. Foreign correspondent for Polish - American newspapers, 1934-36; lecturer, 1932 42; instructor and supervisor of the Polish Language Department, Dept. of Education, Boston, Mass., 1936-38; Editor-in-chief of "Kuryer Codzienny," Boston, Mass., 1938. Member: Society of American Archivists; P.R.C.U., P.N.A., Polish Institute of Arts and Sciences in America He is author of several educational tracts on literature; contributor to Polish-American newspapers. In 1939 he was offered a special scholarship from the World Alliance of Poles to study in Poland. He spent a full year doing research work in most prominent museums of Poland and preparing himself for a career as archivist. He is now associate director of P.R.C.U.
