Wolowska, Honorata B.
Social worker. Born in Torun, Poland. In 1890 came to U.S. and settled for some time in Chicago; very active in Polish Falcons Alliance. In 1896 left Chicago and went to Pennsylvania, where she worked in educational evening schools for the Polish miners. In 1910 visited Poland; instrumental in founding special committees to help the Polish Army, especially during the Polish-Bolshevik war in 1920, using the Oversea Fund for that purpose; founder of "Polskie Szare Samarytanki" (Polish Army Samaritans), who did very splendid work in the Polish-Bolshevik war and in East Poland; visited Poland in 1920 and 1928. Decorated with "Krzyz Walecznych" by Marshall Joseph Pilsudski. During the second World War active in the Polish War Relief Committee. In 1935 elected president of the Polish Women's Alliance of America, re-elected in 1939, as president of same organization. In 1939 decorated by the Polish Government with Silver Cross of Merit.
