Woywod (Wojewoda), Rev. Stanislaus, O.F.M.
Born in Buttstadt, East Prussia, Germany, August 10, 1880. Educated at the Franciscan College, Harreveld, Holland; at St. Anthony's College, Rome, Italy. Came to U.S. in 1897. Entered the Franciscan Order in 1899; ordained in 1906; hector general of moral theology and canon law in the Franciscan Order in 1909; professor of canon law and liturgy, Franciscan Scholasticate, Paterson, N. J., 1909- ; master of theologians, Franciscan Province of the Holy Name. Associated editor of Friar Series, American edition. Editor of St. Anthony's Almanac. Most of his thirty-five years in the priesthood were devoted to the study and teaching of canon law; served as superior in the Franciscan monastery at Paterson and at Holy Name College, Washington, D.C., before coming to New York. He had degrees in civil and ecclesiastical law from several universities; author of constitutions for many sisterhoods throughout the country. When the new code of canon law was adopted in 1918 he wrote the first English translation and later was the author of a two-volume commentary. He had contributed numerous articles on canon law to Catholic publications, particularly The Ecclesiastic Review and The Homiletic Monthly.
