Artist's Biography

Marie Podhor was born in Poland. From early childhood she enjoyed spending time drawing and sketching. In Paris she received guidance from the famous painters Walter Uhl and Edmund Sousa, a portraitist. Though she took up painting she pursued medical studies in Warsaw and alter in Paris where she became a specialist at a hospital and in private practice at her own office over 28 years.

She works for the charitable association "Doctors in the World" (Medecin du monde).

Wherever she may work, she is constantly painting. Her devotion to art comes from a fascination by beauty of nature an the admiration of it, in portraits, flowers.

She learned the techniques of expression in painting while studying at the Ecole de Beaux Arts in Paris and l' Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris on the Boulevard Mountparnasse. In the United States she studied at the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts and at the New York City National Academy of Fine Art, and at the Student League of New York.

At the Salmagundi Club she has had occasion to assist in various workshops given by the better known American painters: Claudia Seymor, Janet A. Cook, Joseph Perez, Richard Smith, Max Ginsburg, Burton Silverman, Aaron Shilker, Daniel Green, Liz Haywood-Sulivan, Diane de Santis, Thomas Valenti, Christina Debary, Bill Creevy, Robert Carsen.

After coming to the United States she exhibited paintings at the Philadelphia International Institute (PII Galery) at the Nauman Galery in Philadelphia, and at the Philadelphia Sketch Club. In New York City she exhibited her painting at the Salmagundi Art Club, 47 Fifth Avenue.
